QUESTION:
“What is the Liberation that Buddha offers us?
ANSWER:
Freedom NOT from the mere presence of Suffering
BUT from it’s tyranny.
It is written that although many talk,
few understand.
So it should come as no surprise
that most who describe what they think enlightenment is
are just making stuff up
that actually contradicts Buddha’s teachings.
A common misconception is that when we are fully enlightened
there will be absolutely NO:
• circumstantial,
• social,
• physical,
• emotional,
• intellectual or
• spiritual sufferings
in our life.
But is that what Buddha taught?
When we read translations of the ancient texts
we see Buddha describing the sufferings he experienced Before enlightenment
and then the sufferings he experienced After enlightenment.
“Well hey Buddha…” one could ask,
“…if the sufferings are still present then what has changed?”
Our relationship to the sufferings, they are no longer the “boss of us.”
The no longer dictate our actions or utterances, no less our choices.
Anyone can be happy when everything is going as desired,
but it takes a Buddha to find happiness when everything is NOT going well.
Could you desire that kind of freedom?
