Dear Ms. P,
I receive over a hundred friend requests weekly
at my space.
I've noticed that
some folks contact me because they desire praise,
some folks contact me because they desire entertainment
some folks contact me because they desire commerce
and other folks contact me because they desire guidance.
It takes great humility and spiritual ambition
to desire and actively seek guidance.
Of all the many folks
who seemed enthusiastic to check,
no less demand my credentials:
none of them desired guidance... from anyone!
Buddha's method to determine the validity of a teacher
http://www.lamajigme.com/Essay-Four.html
truly separates:
the wheat from the chaff,
the men from the boys,
and the spiritual ambitious from the self-important.
I love those who are intoxicated with their own self importance
but I can NOT help them
until they desire that help.
A universal truth
applicable to every religion
is that there are far more religious people
then there are spiritual ones.
It is sad
but it is true.
The tyranny of fear
is poison.
Paul the apostle taught
that perfect love drives out fear.
It could therefore be argued that just like oil and water
Fear and Love can't mix.
If our spiritual practice
is based on fear
it will not take us to the Loving, Peaceful, Insightful and Happy place
that we desire to go.
Many years ago
I used to answer every question put to me,
in the name of Humility.
Now, that I am much older
I refuse to answer many questions,
in the name of Love.
There were questions Buddha refused to answer.
There were questions Jesus refused to answer.
There are questions I refuse to answer.
I have found that answering questions
driven by Sorrow, Fear, Aggression, Pride and Control-issues,
only fuels those painful tendencies.
I am so grateful for my credentials.
But I love folk too much to share them.
Credential reliance is a house of cards
that offers No shelter!
All that matters, my friend,
are results.
All that matters is that the student
hungers to be a happy camper
and that the teacher
furnishes the idiot-proof tools that will always work.
Credentials are no guarantee of results.
Only experimentation tells us of results.
Realtors don't like wasting time with lookie-loos
they want to spend their time with buyers.
likewise spiritual guides do not desire to squander their time and energy
on those who prefer indulging idle curiosity or destructive self-importance
rather than earnestly seeking to enhance there experience
of Love, Peace, Insight and Happiness.
There are, already, right now,
Millions of sincere seekers, who hunger and thirst for spiritual riches,
in the continental United States alone,
no less, in the rest of the world!
These are the people who deserve the lion's share of my resources.
These are the people who deserve the lion's share of my energy.
These are the people who deserve the remainder of whatever time I have left.
The Buddha taught that we have each taken rebirth so many times
that every living being has each taken at least one turn
at being our kind mother.
{We’ll cover that in greater depth, during the Third lesson of the Intermediate-series.}
I love all my previous, kind mothers.
Especially the ones who are now caught up in pride and triviality.
I love them far too much to indulge and feed their destructive tendencies.
I love them so much, that I share my good karma with them;
even the ones who abuse me,
in expectation of their full enlightenment and a speedy end to their suffering.
Please don't ask me to harm others
by indulging their destructive tendencies.
Live is too short, and sufferings are too heavy
for me to lead others even deeper into folly.
Have a beautiful evening,
give my love to your husband, son,
and numerous pets.
