Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea # 135
from your Buddhism expert
Happy Renunciation-Friday!
If Atisha caused us to ask, “Which practice of which Buddha I should work with?” then it was the great, Tibetan monk Patrul Rinpoche who answered that, with these controversial and radical words:
“One deity, Chen-re-zig, embodies all Buddhas;
one mantra, the Six-syllables, embodies all mantras;
one Dhar-ma, Bo-dhi-chit-ta, embodies all practices
of the development and completion stages.
Knowing the one which liberates all,
recite the Six-syllable mantra.”
Yes, we read this quote last week. But could you see how exploring it’s background through Atisha’s teachings could highlight it’s value?
We don’t need to squander time appealing to numerous Buddhas when one is sufficient. When could one Buddha be sufficient? When he is the synthesis of every Buddha. Which Buddha is the synthesis of every Buddha? Chen-re-zig, the Buddha of Compassion!
Whether we call him, “Kind Eyes,” “He who harkens to the cries of the world,” “Avalokiteshvara,” “Quan Te Am,” “Kuan Shih Yin Pu’sa,” “Kwonzeon Bosatsu” or simply “Chen-re-zig” The Buddha of Compassion is easily invoked.
What is the most effective means of invoking the Buddha of Compassion?
We’ll explore that on Monday.
