Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea # 143

Bliss and Openness pt. 24
What is Ultimate Bodhichitta?
Happy Interconnection-Wednesday!
The Ultimate mind-set of enlightenment is the wisdom
of Letting-go. It is NOT the mere presence of
unpleasantness that draws sufferings to us
{like iron filings are drawn to a magnet}.
Nope, rather it is our reaction to unpleasantness
that gets us into trouble. The knee-jerk reactions
of striving to pull pleasures closer to us and shove
pains further away from us is the true cause of
suffering. Whether we’re pushing or pulling both
categories of behavior are what Buddha described as
“Grasping.”
I’ve spoken to some dithering idiots who were
convinced that all suffering was due to desire and
all they had to do was “merely” stop desiring
things. Yeah, right; let me know how well that
works for you!
My friend, we are born hedonists. But that doesn’t
have to be a bad thing. Simply noticing what you
obsessively desire is an easy way to perfect our
practice of concentration. And then training in the
mental yogas of Letting-go is a profoundly way to
accomplish the Buddha’s wisdom.
Awareness and release, awareness and release. The
heart of Buddha’s insight trainings are simply
noticing and then letting go; noticing and then
letting-go; back and forth, back and forth.
So when we desire a pleasure, simply notice that
longing, and allow it to fuel your practice of
concentration. After a bit, practice the mental
yogas of letting-go of that desire. Remember the
object is not to push the desire away, but to merely
harness it’s energy in the arena of noticing and
letting go. That is Buddha’s path of wisdom.
What could be a simple, easy and concise explanation
of the two bodhichittas?
We’ll explore that tomorrow.
We are born hedonists. We like pleasure. We long for
even more pleasure. Why do most folks choose to
meditate? Because they hope it will increase their
experience of Bliss! What are some of the reasons we
could each long for more pleasure?
My instructional CD: “Harnessing the Power of the
Bowing Prayer” could teach you sure-fire-ways to
feel more bliss. I normally offer this CD as a way
of saying “thank you” for donations of $39.95, but
THIS month I’m giving this CD to everyone who makes
a donation of just $29.95
