Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #166
from your Buddhism expert
As a boy, I can not help but be interested when
they make announcements about the latest fighter
jets.

Yes, they are expensive instruments of death, but
deep down, the voice of my inner little boy coos
“but it’s so cool!” And ya know, I don’t think that’s
a coincidence, do you? Take the name for example,
the “F-22 Raptor!” Hey, I’ve seen “Jurassic Park,”
I remember what those monsters were like, don’t you?
You know, you hear a name like “F-22 Raptor” and
you think, “man, it’s gonna tear the enemy apart!”
Of course that name is going to appeal to the
innocent, playful, aggression of our inner little boy,
that is what it was designed to do. Yep, there is
power in the name. After all, how many jets could
they have sold if they were named the “P 2 ½ Shy
Kitten?”

“Hey there Maverick, what are you going to do?”
“I” fix’en to take to the skys in my F-22
Raptor, find the enemy, and tear’em a new one!”
“Go get’em Mav!”
“How about you, Steven, what are you going
to do?”
“I think I might climb into my P 2 ½ Shy
Kitten, prance about from cloud to cloud and see if
I can’t find the enemy.”
“What are you going to do when you find him?”
“Oooh, I’m going to give him such a stare!”
“Well, you go do that Steven.”
Labels can have a profound expect on our
expectations, can’t they. How could this consistently
observable phenomena have an effect on our
spiritual practice?
When meditators choose to “battle” their insecurities
rather then “work with” those insecurities; is it
any wonder we can feel beleaguered? When yogis
choose to “wrestle” with distraction rather than
“work with” the play of spontaneous creativity;
how difficult could it be to really feel peaceful
and at ease in the present moment? When
contemplatives choose to “collect” their mantras
rather than “play” with the Six-syllables; could you
see how feelings of joy and freedom could become
scarce?
That’s right, my friend:
• words effect attitudes
• and attitudes effect experience.
Wisely select your words and could skillfully sculpt
your experience.
I don’t want to squander the precious opportunity that
is this life with attitudes that can produce the
sufferings of feeling needlessly beleaguered, stressed
out and that my spiritual path has become repellent,
drudgery; how about you?
I want more from my spiritual life. I want challenges
that are fun, rather than embattled, I want to be
playful rather then combative, and experience a
consistent joy, freedom, peace and feeling of ease.
So let’s use the mental yogas found in “Quick Path
to Happy Peace” in the most effective manner. Next
month let’s learn how to gently work with awareness
in a manner that generates feelings of peace and being
at ease. Later this year let’s learn how to bring
insecurities into the three paths of liberation,
in a manner that effortlessly and effectively
increases our experience of:
- the serenity of concentration,
- the wisdom of letting go
- and the power of compassion.
What is key to making that happen? What could be
instrumental in assuring success in these worthy
endeavors? Ground work!
Every spring the baseball professionals show up at
training camp to work on basics. Every summer
American football players train for the up coming
season by drilling the basics.
How could you prepare for this year’s life-changing
lessons? By exercising the humility to train in the
fundamentals of the Six-syllable, Mani-mantra.

Padme Hum and it’s significance
