From Dilgo Khyentse's
"The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones,"
lets read from the Commentary on pg. 16-17 and
let's also read from the root text on page 189.

In today's selection from Dilgo Khyentse's commentary we can read:
"If you point out someone's faults,
he will become quite upset -
even if he is your own child or student.
If you flatter him, however,
attributing to him qualities
he does NOT possess,
he will be delighted.
But as the saying goes,
'Though it sounds impressive,
the rumble of thunder is just noise.'
If people always agree with us and flatter us,
it may make us feel good
but it will NOT help us to develop the
qualities of a Dhar-ma practitioner.
What will truly hellp us most
is to have our faults pointed out
and the right way to deal with them
shown to us.
Gold, through repeated beating and melting,
becomes more and more refined.
In the same way,
by continually recognizing our own faults
and applying the teacher's instructions,
we will be able to transform our negative qualities
into the path of liberation. "
From the Dalai Lama's
"The Path to Enlightenment,"
lets read page 42-43 and
let's also read from the devotional text on page 195.

In today's selection the Dalai Lama explaines:
"The author of 'Essence of Refined Gold'
was born in the Tolung area of Tibet.
Shortly after his birth a clairvoyant yogi
living in the area
prophesised that he was the
incarnation of the recently deceased
Gyalwa Gendun Gyatso [the Second Dalai Lama].
Word of the prophesy spread,
and a delegation came,
examined the boy
and placed him on a list of candidates.
Later the Nechung Oracle certified
that the boy was the true reincarnation of
Gendun Gyatso, and also was an emanation
of Guru Padma Sambhava.
While still a youth
Sonam Gyatso himself experienced
a vision of Tsonkhapa.
Many such marvels occcured in his childhood.
He was placed in Drepung for education,
where he studied and practied for many years."
