Inconvenient Fear

.

Fear can be as corporeally inconvenient
as it could be spiritually advantageous
when it’s energy is harnessed

by the cunning use of
Buddha’s mental yogas.

It has been said that,
“Fortune favors the bold.”

Come let us NOT content ourselves
to call “teacher”
a robed fellow who cryptically speaks to us
in broken English,

as merely an individual,
lost in a large audience,

once every few months,
no less years.

Before the start of the new year,
find a high Bodhisattva to work with you,
One-on-One, EVERY week,
either In-person or
over the FREE internet telephone.

Monday's Recommended Reading

.
From Dilgo Khyentse's
"
The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones,"
lets read from the Commentary on pg. 76-77 and
let's also read from the root text on page 195.
.

.

In today's selection from Dilgo Khyentse's commentary we can read:

"The literal meaning of Guru Yoga is

'union with the teacher's nature.'

To blend your mind with the teacher's mind is
the most profound of all practices and
the shortest path to realization.

It is the life-force of the path and
the one practice that includes all others.

It was through relying on a spiritual teacher that
all the Bodhisattvas of the past
generated the mind of enlightenment and
reached perfection.

The Bodhisattva Tak-tu-ngu, the
'Ever-Weeping One,' for example,
was willing to give anything,
even his own flesh and blood,
in order to be accepted by his teacher..."

From the Dalai Lama's
"
The Path to Enlightenment,"
lets read page 98-99 and
let's also read from the
Translator's Introduction on page 13.

In today's selection the 14th Dalai Lama explains:

"How did the Enlightened Ones
attain the state of omniscient buddhahood?

By purifying and expanding their minds
through the practice of Dharma,
which out of compassion they later teach.

Our Buddha, Shakyamuni, trained under many masters
over a string of lifetimes.
Eventually his practice of Dharma
transported him to enlightenment.

Thus it is said that Dharma is the actual refuge,

the Enlightened Ones are
the teachers of refuge, and

the Sangha are
the friends of refuge.

If we admire the Enlightened Ones,
how can we NOT admire the force that
brought them to enlightenment?"

In today's exploration of
the " Intermediate Collection of Practices "
we could consider:

The Prayer of Refuge and Bodhichitta

Eternally “I” go for refuge
to Bud-dha, Dhar-ma and Sang-ha.
For the sake of every living being
may I accomplish Chen-re-zig.

Sunday's Recommened Reading

.
From Dilgo Khyentse's
"
The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones,"
lets read from the Commentary on pg. 46-47 and
let's also read from the root text on page 171.

In today's selection from Dilgo Khyentse's commentary we can read:

"In the past,
anyone who took monastic vows,
wore robes
- the glorious emblem of the Buddha's teachings -
and practiced the Dhar-ma properly

would earn everyone's
approval, respect, and support.

But if anyone does that nowadays,
people assume either that he is showing off or
that he is some inadequate personality
who cannot adjust to the world."

From the Dalai Lama's
"
The Path to Enlightenment,"
lets read page 70-71 and
let's also read from the biography of
the 3rd Dalai Lama on page 211.

In today's selection the Third Dalai Lama explains:

"The practice of guru yoga means that
one ignores any negative traits that
the guru may SEEM to have,
and that one meditates upon
his or her positive qualities.

If we can develop the habit of
always seeing the guru through
his or her good qualities,
our confidence naturally grows,

and eventually we become able to
take our preconceptions about faults
he or she SEEMs to display
and transform them in to spiritually useful tools.

Perceptions of faults in the guru
should NOT cause us to feel disrespect,
for by demonstrating faults to us
the guru is actually showing us
what we should abandon."

In today's selection from
"The Healing Power of Love and Letting-go"
we can read:

"I claim to be arousing Bo-dhi-chit-ta, but
it still has not taken root in me.
I have trained in the path of the Six-perfections,
yet have remained selfish.

Bless me, and all petty beings like me, that
we may accomplish: the
Spontaneous, Habitual, Effortless and Effective
Mind of Love and Letting-go."
