The Truth about Love
Happy Impermanence-Tuesday!
Yesterday we discussed that there are only
two kinds of teachers:
• Love-givers
• and Fear-mongers.
And the Fear-mongers specialize in discouraging us.
What are some of the lies they often tell:
“If you don’t Feel loving then
you Aren’t loving.”
Wow! That can really steal our stride and transform us
into the shuffling discouraged.
My friend I’m here to tell you the truth:
Who we are is NOT determined by what we feel.
Nope, who we are is determined by what we do,
about what we feel.
Who we are is NOT determined by what we feel;
BUT by what we choose.
Who we are is NOT determined by emotion;
BUT by volition!
Great, so how do we become men and women of compassion
and love? Simple! We become men and women of
compassion and love by choosing, willing, wishing
and acting to take away the sufferings of others
and lavish them with every blessing. That is why
we use the Buddhist prayer-book and guided meditation
resource: “Quick Path to Happy Peace.” It is an
excellent tool to guide and strengthen our
loving intention.
Now that we’ve explored Conventional Bodhichitta,
what about Ultimate Bodhichitta?
We’ll explore that tomorrow.
Wow, I ate too much jicama -husk, which can really
irritate the bowls. Have you ever ate something that
really irritated your bowels? I don’t know if you’re
like me, but at about 4 o’clock this morning I awoke
from annoying dreams in quite an annoyed mood.
How annoyed was I? On a scale of zero to ten, the
annoyance was about an eight. Remember: who we are
is NOT determined by what we feel, BUT what we do with what we feel.
So I padded across the floor, made my way to the
zabuton in-front-of my Buddhist-alter, and knelt Samurai-style.
There I savored the secrets of the bowing prayer.
In less then 90 seconds my annoyance went from an “8”
to a “0”!
