UN-voiced needs are seldom met. Un-met needs are the seeds that can often give rise to resentment or despair. When I was a little boy, every Saturday afternoon I would watch monster movies on the T.V. One of the scariest was “The Mummy.” I felt that wrapping a man in bandages and burying him alive was very impolite. Let me tell you; when that fellow was excavated, he was angry. Likewise burying our UN-met needs under a great pile of excuses and distractions will not make it go away. It will burrow to the surface. And when it does it will give us such a spanking!
What are some of the relationships in your life? What are some of the relationships we have with our friends, lovers, relatives, bosses, coworkers, staff, pets and teachers? What are some of our current UN-met needs? Of all our UN-met needs which one is causing us the greatest degree of suffering?
Now that we have identified the most urgent UN-met need in our life let’s determine it’s sphere of influence. Who is the one person who could meet our currently UN-met need? Who is the one person with the motive, means, and opportunity to meet our UN-met need? Then let’s approach that individual.
Doing something is good. Doing something skillful is even better. Let’s approach that certain someone, peacefully, gently, and confidently. Certain in our focus of what it is we desire. Let’s communicate with that person: respectfully, affectionately, concisely.
Between now and then. Between now and the conversation; what are some of the things we can physically, mentally and even metaphysically do to prepare? Remember, that which some folks call “Luck” is merely the intersection of preparation and opportunity.
Go forth boldly. Make an exciting adventure of your life. Remember, fortune favors the bold.
