I am so grateful I have working eyes. Our world is full of so much beauty, and I desire to savor much of it. The constant change that pervades all things, beings and phenomena ensures that there could always be something even more beautiful, either right around the corner, or at the turn of the hour. But perceptions can be tricky things. How often, at first glance, have we mistaken one thing for another. How often could a coiled bit of rope be mistaken for a snake, out of the corner of one’s eye, or the play of a shrub in the wind, be mistaken for the approach of a favorite pet, in one’s periphery? Could one not mistake blessing for misfortune or opportunity for inconvenience as well?
In order to clearly perceive and deeply look into the ever-evolving display of phenomena, as they manifest and present themselves before us, it is Imperative that we Release our Grasp upon our Preconceptions. Our preconceptions could possess the ability to skew our perceptions, cloud our comprehensions and slow our progress upon Buddha’s path, much like Charles Dickens’ “ghost of Jacob Marley” was bound-up and weighed-down by the very chains he himself had forged, was wrapped-up in and dragged about. Yes, my friends, our ability to deeply and clearly perceive is directly related to our habit of effortlessly, effectively and spontaneously letting go.
The easiest way to acquire this beneficial habit of letting go is to regularly perform the set of contemplations I like to call “The Sutric Questions.” That is why I teach them in the fifth installment of the Beginning-series of seven telephone lessons.
You could receive my help or you might try to find the effective help of another. Either way it could be in your best interest to give the lifestyle of letting go, in the Most wonderful way, the priority it deserves.
