Saturday's Recommended Reading

.
From Dilgo Khyentse's
"
The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones,"
lets read from the Commentary on pg. 38-39 and
let's also read from the root text on page 205.

In today's selection from Dilgo Khyentse's commentary we can read:

"How should we practice the Dhar-ma?
The great Ka-dam-pa teachers considered
the MOST precious teaching to be
the inseparability of Voidness and Compassion.

Over and over again, they cultivated
love, compassion, joy and equanimity -
the four limitless thoughts,
out of which the ability to help others
arises effortlessly.

Famous for practicing in
uncompromising adherence to the teachings,
these masters trained themselves
first through careful study of the Dhar-ma
and then through direct experience in meditation.

That is the right way to make progress on the path
that leads to the great Bliss of ultimate Buddhahood."

From the Dalai Lama's
"
The Path to Enlightenment,"
lets read page 62-63 and
let's also read from the biography of
the 3rd Dalai Lama on page 207.

In today's selection the 3rd Dalai Lama explains:

"Consider the countless ways in which
the teacher is kind to you:
the spiritual master [teacher]
is the root of all mystical attainment,

the source of all goodness
in this and in future lives,
and the doctor who eradicates
the disease of mental and

psychophysical disturbances with
the pill of Dhar-ma.

However, although you have wandered in
Sam-sa-ra throughout the infinite past,
never before have you met a guru;
or even if you met one

you did NOT correctly follow
his or her teachings,
for you are NOT yet a Buddha.

Think,
'I have now met with a spiritual master [guide]
and should try to practice as pleases him.'

It is more kind to give a bowl of simple food
to someone dying of hunger
than to give a handful of golden coins
to someone who has every luxury.

For this reason
it is said
that one's personal guru is kinder
than even Buddha himself."

In today's selection from
"The Healing Power of Love and Letting-go"
we can read:

I see that Sam-sa-ra is the tyranny of suffering,
but crave it, and it’s causes, still.
I dread the specter of the lower realms,
but persist in acting foolishly.

Bless me, and those who go astray like me,
that we may sincerely renounce the
causes of suffering."
