The problem with being NON-sectarian
{or Rime as they say in Tibet} is that when all the
sectarian folk see what you’re doing,
it can really Piss them off!
The only thing the sectarian folk find more distasteful then
“nobodies” practicing and teaching NON-sectarianism is
when men and women of great political stature within
the “spiritual community” start promoting it as well.
Then they find themselves in a predicament.

Do they stick to their sectarian “guns” and
ignore the teachings of “great saints?”
Or do they heed the great saints and
turn their backs on their sectarian cronies?
Not wanting to do either, many
less then noble hearted teachers began to explain...
“oh sure receive all the teachings you want
from any lineage you find,
BUT…
do NOT blend the practices.”
But isn’t that like taking a starving man to a Smorgasbord,
letting him pile up his plate with everything he desires,
walking him to a table, and then forbidding him to actually eat?
How lame is that!
That is why, many centuries ago,
one of the great, NON-sectarian devotees to
the Buddha of Compassion {the Rime Manipa, Karma Chagme Rinpoche}
wrote:
All the innumerable and profound teachings,
such as Mahamudra and Dzogchen,
which are decisive and unmistaken
in each root text,
are indispensable when teaching disciples
who will “hold” the Dharma-lineages.
BUT for personal practice, for the sake of the future,
it is More profound to condense them all into ONE.
The second line refers to the Mahamudra of the Kagyu sect
as well as the Dzogchen of the Nyingma sect.
In the concluding line, rather than being told to
keep them separate, we are instructed to
“condense them all into ONE.”
Folks, humans can be petty, aggressive and competitive.
But the test of a teaching {according to Buddha} is
NOT who endorses it, but rather,
what fruit it produces when it is properly applied.
Suffering sucks.
I don’t want to be subject to it’s tyranny, nor
do I want that for you either.
So lets practice the essence of all the teachings so
we can accomplish full enlightenment in
only eleven months of twice daily practice!
After all what’s our goal, to
propitiate a lineage, OR
to accomplish the path?
May you and yours be
happy and healthy!
Om Mani Padme Hum,
NON-sectarian Buddhist: Monk, Teacher, Healer and TantrikaWho is Kwan Yin, Chenrezig, Avalokiteshvara and the Buddha of Compassion?
What is the difference between a Buddha, a Bodhisattva and a Boob?
What is the Six-syllable mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, and what does it mean?
What is Enlightenment?
What is the key to Breathing meditation?
What is Suffering?
