Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #165
from your Buddhism expert
It’s in the Water
I’m a bit of a health nut. I don’t drink coffee,
soda or alcohol. In fact, the only beverage I drink
is water. So you could imagine how surprised I was
when the Associated press recently reported that
many pharmaceuticals have found their way into
various water supplies. For instance:

• Atlanta: 10 (including caffeine,
sulfamethoxazole, diltiazem, acetaminophen,
trimethoprim, cotinine and paraxanthine)
• Cincinnati: 4 (gemfibrozil, ibuprofen,

• New York City: 16 (including atenolol,
trimethoprim, carbamazepine, ibuprofen, estrogen,

• Northern New Jersey: 13 (including
acetaminophen, carbamazepine, codeine,

That reminds me of an older, Buddhist nun who once
told me that try as we might, we’re always going to
get our hands dirty in Samsara. And that, my friend,
is why most Buddhists are really quite eager to
purify their bad karma.
A great and easy way to purify your bad karma is to
recite the “Prayer of Refuge and Bodhichitta” three
times every morning and three times every evening.
It is found on page 3 of “Quick Path to Happy Peace,”
which you can download for FREE at
http://www.lamajigme.com
The late teacher of the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet,
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, taught that there are many
methods of purifying bad karma; including the
bowing-repentance before confessional Buddas, and
the practice of the hundred syllable mantra. He also
taught that none were as effective as the simple
practice of the Six-syllable mantra: “Om Mani
Padme Hum.”
My friend, good karma is important, bad karma is
important and purifying bad karma is also important.
If you choose to rely upon the elegant simplicity
of the Six-syllable, “Mani” mantra to purify your
bad karma then it is very important that you know:
• what it means,
• how to pronounce it,
• how to use it and…
• why to use it.
That is why, THIS month, the Instructional CD
“Mastering the Mani” is being offered at a special
discount.
