Two Trios

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #196
from your Buddhism expert

Is devotion to the Buddha of Compassion the only
path to full enlightenment in one lifetime? No,
of course not. It’s just the fastest.

There is this thing we call the divine. And we’re
always slapping all kinds of labels on it. What are
some of the names we could already be familiar with?

We can call it: Dharmakaya, Chenrezig, Vajradhara,
Samantabhadra, Vairochana, Amitabha, Dhammakaya,
Sky Spirit, God and Goddess, God of Abraham, Isaac
and Jacob, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Shiva,
Krishna, Bhrama, or Tao. Regardless of what labels
we fancy, we all use the same four ideas to describe
the divine. What could they be? We describe the
divine as:
• all powerful,
• all loving,
• all knowing and…
• all present.

Regardless of the labels we bandy about, water is
still water, sky is still sky, a rose is still a
rose and dog poop still stinks. Likewise, despite
differences in language, tradition, culture, belief,
cosmology and metaphysics we are still relating to
the same divinity… whether we know it or not, whether
we believe it or not… whether we want to or not.

To one degree or another every major religion at
least refers to the same TRIO of ideas to be
realized, internalized and processed so that we can
evolve even further upon the path of peace,
happiness and fulfillment. What could they be? Why
simply:
• Causality,
• Change and…
• False-identity.

Then, why do I persist in sharing these teachings
from Buddha’s perspective? Because that is the
clearest, most lucid and dynamically effective
presentation that I have found in all my many
lifetimes of searching.

And to get us there, to give us the strength and the
means to get us to realize those realities in a
truly transformative way, each religion offers
three tools with varying degrees of effectiveness.
What is the TRIO of tools to be used that I often
refer to? They are:
• Devotion,
• Love and…
• Letting-go!
