The Four "I's"
Integral to the rapid and complete {tantrika} path of
NON-sectarian {rime} devotion to
the Buddha of Compassion {manipa} are the four I’s of:
Inscription, Inquisition, Invocation and Inclusion.
Just as NO symphony could be organized without
the device of musical notation, likewise
learning meditation without the tool of
contemplative notation could be a
difficult, frustrating and slow endeavor, indeed.
Just as the impotence of affirmations
is manifest
so is the effectiveness of
a well-worded, assumptive question;
at the task of guiding the inner-mind.
You show me a self-made man, and
I’ll show you the Frankenstein monster!
Rather than arrogantly rely on
the house of cards that is our own,
finite and far too limited, power, presence,
love and wisdom; come let us rely upon the
fully enlightened Buddha of Compassion through
either his three syllable name or his six syllable mantra.
Every version of “The Buddha’s Three Cauldrons,”
be it concise, middling or extensive – includes
the essence of the Sutric stages of
renunciation, love and wisdom as well as the
Tantric stages of concentration, contemplation and awareness.
The complete set of steps upon
Buddha’s path that leads to enlightenment are what
each of the Dalai Lamas have called the, “Lam Rim.”
To rapidly master Buddha’s mental yogas of
devotion, awareness, love and letting-go; to the
point where we can apply them
spontaneously, habitually, easily and effectively and
as such enjoy freedom from the tyranny of
circumstantial, physical, emotional and intellectual
suffering – it is absolutely crucial that we practice the
four I’s of: Inscription, Inquisition, Invocation and Inclusion; so
that we can better aid and liberate all others,
in the most wonderful way.
