Naomi’s Inconvenience

Naomi Campbell didn’t want to testify at the war crimes tribunal.
She said, “…
this is a terrible inconvenience to me…”
and who can blame her?
Let’s face it, the Netherlands are a shelp!

Perhaps the litmus test for a task
should not be measured in convenience to self
but in the benefit it brings to others.

Yes, where Homer Simpson might evaluate tasks
in order of convenience,
a Bodhisattva measures them in terms
of how much benefit they’ll bring to others.

I don’t want to be a pathetic boob of a Homer Simpson,
how about you?
But, on the other hand, simply forcing myself to do the right thing,
could really add to my crankiness!

So the key to consistently doing the most compassionate thing,
in the long-term,
without any cranky side effects
is to cultivate the earnest desire to alleviate the sufferings of others.

You see my friends the test of any meditation or self-help program
is not just how peaceful or happy it makes you,
but how loving it makes you.

Hey man, I want it all,
I want to be peaceful, happy and loving;
how about you?

May you and yours be
happy and healthy!
