Blaming Karma

.

Fatalism is a bad thing.
Sometimes people get discouraged on the path to enlightenment.
That discouragement can give birth to an utter certainty
that they can’t complete the path.

That certainty can erode their self esteem.
And therefore to protect their self esteem,
they can tragically make up reasons
why no man can accomplish enlightenment.

There are two reasons to do the right thing.
#1 The selfish fear of receiving a karmic spanking.
#2 or the simple intention to benefit all beings.

Q: What is Sam-sa-ra?
A: Sam-sa-ra is the Tyranny of Suffering

The ONE thing that keeps us in Samsara
is our failure to MASTER Buddha’s mental yogas.

Let us not mystify the notion of karma.
Our decisions, words and actions
either create opportunities that are conducive to Dharma-practice
are they create obstacles.

Let’s not make stuff up,
even esoteric stuff up
to answer the endless demand of “Why?”

Rather let us Ask:
• “What’s going on?”
• “How can I prevent it?”
• “How can I fix it?” and {most importantly}
• “How can I make the most of it?”

Rather then trying to protect our feelings,
lets improve our minds, hearts, and actions and become
the truly wonderful people our dogs already think we are!

The Folly of asking, "Why?"

.

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #174
from your Buddhism expert

The Folly of asking, “Why?”

I’m going to pick on an anonymous student. Why?
Am I doing this so we can all point at her and laugh,
secure in the illusion of our own self righteousness?
Not so much. Rather, this is a chance for us to
examine the folly of many of the tendencies that
pervade each of us. Not so we can feel guilty or
stupid, but so that we can learn.

Folks, this is what separates the men from the boys.
The self-righteous seek non-threatening teachings,
so they can feel good about themselves; whereas the
truly spiritual seek challenging and practical
teachings that could actually speed their progression
upon Buddha’s path of:
• love,
• peace,
• insight and
• happiness.
So which are you, self-righteous or truly spiritual;
defensive or humble? Nope, it’s not what you feel
that will determine your answer, but what you CHOOSE.

A very nice lady wrote me yesterday telling me of
the sadness she feels when she considers the
suffering of animals. Of course that would make her
feel sad, why wouldn’t it? After all, concern for
the well-being of others is a significant part of the
ultimate nature that pervades each of us.

This sensitive gal feels sad when she considers the
plight of many animals. She doesn’t like feeling that
way, so she seeks a solution to her sorrow. Where does
she look? She looks in “story.”

Instead of asking, “what can I do to help the animals,”
she asks, “why are they suffering so.” Rather than
deal with the present or the future she is looking to
the past. How often have we done the same thing? How
often have we tried to make ourselves feel better by
indulging a really compelling story?

How often have lovers, in the midst of a spat, sought
to earn their partner’s forgiveness through the use
of a compelling story?

“Gee honey, I’m sorry I insulted your mom, but her hat reminded me of evil Aunt Gertrude. Have I ever told you about Aunt Gertrude? Well one day, when I was but a lad…”
blah, blah blah!

My friend, it does not matter why, Joe insulted Helen’s
mom. All that matters is:
• what his actions were,
• what his intentions were,
• how he plans to remedy the situation and
• how he plans to prevent it from occurring
again.
Anything else, is a distraction from that which is
truly important. I don’t want to be distracted from
the spiritual path, how about you?

Stories are great for the campfire. But not so great
for serious spiritual growth. The next time you feel
sad on behalf of another, whether they walk on four
legs or two, it is my sincere hope that you’ll open
your copy of “Quick Path to Happy Peace
http://www.lamajigme.com
and practice the three sets of exercises known as:
#1 Bringing Liberation into the path of Concentration,
#2 Bringing Liberation into the path of Insight, and
#3 Bringing Liberation into the path of Compassion.

By doing so you could actually shift the karma of
others as well as personally advance upon Buddha’s
path to Enlightenment.

P.S. Our ability to really use the
path of the three liberations {mentioned above} hinges
upon our mastery of the fundamentals of practices of
the Buddha of Compassion… namely, the recitations and
meditations that make use of the Six-syllable mantra:
“Om Mani Padme Hum.” That is why I’ve made the CD

You are much More then what you Eat

.

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #173
from your Buddhism expert

You are much More then what you Eat

I’ve seen folks make absolutely stupid assumptions
on the path of self improvement. As a Buddhist
teacher {Lama} I feel that observing other’s
sincere desire to improve themselves is absolutely
beautiful. But the path to growth is lined with
idiots!

Imagine meeting a woman who is very ambition to
evolve as a human being. Now imagine that she is
telling you that her only strategy
is to change what she eats. Will that heal her of
neurosis? Nope, it will just make her a slender nut!

I love fresh fruits and vegetables, who doesn’t. And yes,
there is great evidence that a great diet can lead to great
health. But don’t believe for a minuet that you are what you
eat.

No, you are more, much more. When can neurosis be
good? When it prompts you to take constructive action.
Can fixing our diet help us to keep an even keel? Yes,
it can help, but it is not all sufficient. We must also address our:
• physical,
• emotional,
• intellectual and
• spiritual needs
as well as our nutritional needs if we are going to
make significant strides upon Buddha’s path of love,
peace, insight and happiness.

That is why I’ve provide a FREE Buddhist
prayer-book, guided meditation resource and Buddha-
image to all who go to: http://www.lamajigme.com

That is also why I make a new instructional CD
available every month at:
http://www.lamajigme.com/CDs.html

Khyentse Rinpoche, the late teacher of the 14th Dalai
Lama
of Tibet, taught that the quickest path
to full enlightenment resulted from empowering our
practices of: love and letting-go with the
transformative power of the Six-syllable mantra,
Om Mani Padme Hum.” To really get
the most out of all the free stuff I give you, it is
imperative that you really get comfortable with it’s
secret techniques.

For the ultimate opportunity to learn, master and
really “get” the practice of “Om Mani Padme Hum” as
well as it’s secrets – make sure you get my learn-at-
home course “Mastering the Mani.” There are only 7 more
days to take advantage of this month’s special
discount. Learn what I know and use it for the rest
of your own life –

Happy Pulaski Day

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #160
from your Buddhism expert

Happy Pulaski Day?

Happy Pulaski Day? Who was Pulaski, and why should
we care? Maybe you won’t. But I’m sure glad this
fellow came along and helped American Colonists to
win their War of Independence. But, what is even
more important than his victories were his defeats!

Huh? Although Casimir Pulaski was one of Poland’s
military national heroes, once he was wrongfully
accused of political intrigue, he was banished from
his beloved homeland. It’s what happened next that
I find truly inspirational.

When I read of Casimir’s terrible reversal of
fortune I am reminded of Shakespeare’s line,

“…the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune…”.

But unlike Hamlet, Pulaski did NOT rely upon:
• self pity
• or manipulative tendencies.

I don’t know about you, but in my youth I
experienced many unpleasant manifestations of
outrageous misfortune. No, I did NOT handle it
gracefully! Ever the, little drama prince, I raged
against my little tragedies. I vilified all who
wronged me {to all who would listen} and
energetically lamented how such wretched things
could happen to such a lovely fellow {such as
myself
}. But Pulaski took a higher road than I.

Rather than:
• pleading his case on the Larry King show,
• or starting his own web site
“www.Avenge-Poor-Me.com”;
Pulaski inventoried his abilities and interests and
then “shopped them around” until he found others who
really seemed to require a man of his talents.

When Pulaski's friends decided they didn’t want to
play with him or his football, rather than:
• cry
• or tell their moms on them,
he simply found new friends who were glad to play
with him and his foot ball… as it were.

Yes, my friend, I can be such a silly-head. But all
these metaphors aside, I am thankful that history
has examples of great men who truly braved the
slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, in the
most wonderful way!

of the Buddha of Compassion.

Love minus Respect

.

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #158
from your Buddhism expert

Love minus Respect

Here is a simple equation :

“Love minus Respect equals Abuse”

Love is a word who’s meaning is often forgotten. It
is always a mistake to confuse love with:
• affection,
• sentimentality,
• lust,
• possessiveness
• or familiarity.

Remember, love and compassion are two sides of the
same coin. While love desires to lavish it’s object
with every blessing, compassion longs to take-away
it’s object’s sufferings and their causes.

If another feels sentimental or affectionate towards
us, but is not terribly concerned with our happiness
and well-being; although that may be many things,
it is not love.

Could you imagine what it could be like to have a
friend or relative who simply did not treat you with
respect? What could it be like to have a companion,
maybe even a lover, who was cruel, pushy or
demeaning? That individual may be familiar,
possessive or even lust after us but that is not
love.

Love is a choice, love is a decision, and love is a
habit. You can’t make someone love you, no matter
how much you love them. And kids, “leading by
example
” will only take you so far.

Let’s talk about manifesting… you know when you say
to the universe, “Hey, this is what I desire!” Few
people know, that once we’ve made our desire known,
the cosmos often whispers back, “O.K., now tell me
what you’ll settle for.”

My friend, there is only ONE correct answer to that
question: “I’ll settle for exactly what I desire,
and nothing less!”

Yes, it can take nerves of steel to stare down our
own:
• fear,
• insecurities,
• low self esteem,
• and even the universe’s metaphysical desire
to conserve energy. But friends, let me tell you,
once we develop the habit of politely yet firmly
saying “NO thank you” to anything that is not in our
best interest, things will change.

Whether we see, feel, or understand it or not,
someone, something, everyone and everything is
always watching what we’ll settle for. When we make
it abundantly clear what we won’t settle for, we’ll
notice a change in that which we habitually manifest.

In conclusion: do your friends, lovers and
companions respect:
• you,
• your wishes,
• needs
• and feelings?

If not, gently but firmly express your
dissatisfaction. But what should you do if that is
to no avail? Then find new, friends, lovers and
companions. You have nothing to lose, but your
suffering!
