The Devils gonna Get you if you don't Watch Out!

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #195
from your Buddhism expert

You could be as unobservant as Lois Lane and still
see that there are plenty of fear mongers in every
religion. In every religion on every continent, on
every world there are two types of teachers; Fear-
mongers and Love-mongers. A great example of a Love-
monger could be Saint Francis of Assisi

and a great example of a Fear-monger could be Tomas
de Torquemada of the Spanish Inquisition

In every religion Torquemadas can be found
undermining folks’ peace with tales of hell,
damnation, unspeakable suffering and torment;
designed to manipulate the masses. And yes, hell-
fire Torquemadas can even be found in Buddhism
telling sincere folks of their certain rebirth in
either the hot or cold hells.

Yes, fear can be quite effective at manipulating the
masses but it comes at too high a price. In the short
term fear can undermine the peace that is integral
to Buddha’s path. And in the long term fear can
breed resentment which can undermine devotion, not
only towards one’s teacher, but it can also undermine
devotion to the Buddha and his teachings. Yep,
fear sucks!

Yes, fear does suck, but what about Karma, what
about cause and effect?

Body, Speech and Mind

For every physical action, verbal utterance and
mental decision, there are consequences. Just as
good ones can lead to good:
• events,
• circumstances and
• experiences
in this life and our future ones, likewise bad karma,
generated both in this life and in previous ones,
can have a profound effect in shaping this life and
our next.

Ah ha! Does that mean we should walk Torquemada’s
path of fear and resentment? Oh please don’t.
Rather than lament and dread the effects of our
Karma couldn’t it be better, easier and much more
proactive to simply purify, heal and transform our
karma from bad into good? The great Kadampa teachers
of Tibet used to say that the only good thing about
bad Karma is that it can be purified.

Have you subscribed to Lama Jigme's FREE, fun, politically Incorrect daily e-mail?

There are so many purification methods. Some take
three decades, some take three years and others
take three months. But did you know there is a
profoundly effective Buddhist practice that only
takes 30 seconds?

The Dalai Lama is more that just a great scholar, he
is considered by many to also be a great Buddhist
Yogi. Yes, you may meditate, but so does he. What
could make his meditation sessions so much more
productive and transformative then your own?

The Dalai Lama begins every meditation session with a
special 30 second invocation. You could call it an
unfair advantage, you could call it a preparatory
practice, or you could call it a

Karmic Dynamo

Why do I want to teach you how to effectively perform
the Karmic Dynamo? The teacher of the first Dalai
Lama of Tibet enthusiastically praised this practice
and explained that by practicing it, for just 30
seconds every morning and every evening, you could:

Purify all your Bad karma
• Create Good karma
Multiply your Good karma
• experience Freedom from ever taking a “Bad” rebirth and…
enjoy Protection from natural and supernatural harm

Reserve your copy Now!

What about manifesting? The teacher of the first
Dalai Lama also explained that the easy practice of
the Karmic Dynamo could also cause you to:

be Adopted by every Buddha
• receive the manifestation of your physical wishes and…
accomplish the fulfillment of your spiritual desires

What are your spiritual desires? Most of us meditate
because we wish to be happier as well as more
peaceful and dream of attaining enlightenment. The
teacher of the first Dalai Lama also explained that
by simply practicing this Karmic Dynamo for 30
seconds before your morning meditation and once again
just before your evening meditation you could:

accomplish the perfection of concentration,
• attain greatness,
manifest the mindset that can become the source of everyone’s peace and happiness,
• become worthy to receive respect and gifts,
win the approval and delight of all your teachers and every Buddha,• realize all the steps on Buddha’s path to Enlightenment and…
quickly accomplish Chenrezig {the Buddha of Compassion}

The 14th Dalai Lama’s teacher, Dilgo Khyentse,
taught the importance of both learning as well as
practice. So, I want to give you some extra stuff, so
you can understand a bit more of what Buddha’s path
is really all about, so you can practice the Karmic
Dynamo even more effectively, so you can accomplish
enlightenment in this life. In “Karmic Dynamo”
you’ll also learn about:

the three, wish fulfilling, jewels of Buddha’s path
• what the meaning of life really is,
the three bodies of a Buddha,• what true Enlightenment is,
what the Buddha Nature is and most importantly,
• the four phases of mastery

Thank You Gifts

On the order page I’m giving you the opportunity to
make a medium or a smaller gift. I’ll give you the
thank you gift of receiving the instructions of
the Karmic Dynamo as either:
• a “live”, individual telephone teaching session or
• as an instructional CD.

Your cash donations are integral to the founding of
San Diego’s first “Buddha of Compassion Monastery and
Meditation Center
.” At some level or another, each
of us longs to be a part of something bigger then
just ourselves. Isn’t great, that by simply
furthering your spiritual training by utilizing
either my live or recorded teachings you could be
helping to provide America’s next generation of nuns
and monks with the necessary shelter, clothing,
food, instruction, practice supplies and meditation
materials they’ll need to profoundly help many others?

Now…

is your chance to master the teachings and practices
of the Karmic Dynamo. Now you can learn the convenient,
30 second exercise that will:
improve your Karma, • increase your good fortune,
• ensure an auspicious rebirth and…
accelerate your progress on Buddha’s path.

It is said that merely keeping the doctor’s
prescription on the bed stand will not cure the
patient. Likewise merely reading of the Karmic
Dynamo’s features will not benefit you… you have to
actually get your hands on the instructions and
apply them. Now could be an excellent time for you to
do just that.

Chris' Testimonial

.

Chris recently wrote this testimonial…

Dear Lama Jigme,

I love your CDs! I haven’t come across anything that
has helped me on my spiritual path as much as your
teachings have. Finally, I have found teaching that
are relevant to me and easy to understand. It has
been a blessing receiving your teachings on CD. At
this point in my life I cannot afford the telephone
sessions. I just want you to know that your are
doing an amazing thing.

Your e-mails are great. Humor with serious spiritual
insight; it’s a perfect mixture! It would be great to
join a 5 day retreat. I live in northern California,
so maybe I’ll be able to make it down for one.

Your teachings have made my job easier. Well
not the job itself, but how to deal with it. I am a
direct support professional who works in a supportive
living home for three adults with mental
disabilities. They are all combative. Which makes my
life very difficult on certain days. In the middle of
aggressive behaviors I take deep breaths and look
through the eyes of compassion. I try to relieve
their suffering as fast as I can so I can relieve
mine! It’s nice how my job is a way of practicing
your teachings… it was hard at first not to take the
aggressive behaviors personally but now it beads off,
like water on plastic.

Thank you for your help with human kind. You
are a great benefit to many! Blessings.

Sincerely,
Chris

Chris, thank you for your kind words. And dear
reader, thank you for your continued interest in
the happiness and self-improvement available to
you on Buddha’s path.

This month I’m facilitating your continued progress on
this journey by making the instructional audio CD
Centering Questions” available for a substantial discount.

Finally, you have the opportunity to free yourself
from the:
• frustration,
• difficulty and
• boredom
that is normally associated with the “art” of
meditation. And instead you could relish the freedom,
peace and joy Buddha has always intended for you.
Don’t just sit there, reserve your copy now!

Happiness Blessing

.

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #179
from your Buddhism expert

This is my prayer for you:

"May you be lavished
with the wealth of latent happiness
that is abundant in every moment
of every circumstance."

What could it look like if there was a vast ocean of
happiness lurking behind every moment?

What if happiness was less dependant upon what our
circumstances are, and more dependant on what we
do with them? How cool could that be?

What is the key that unlocks the veritable Fork Knox of
happiness that could truly empower our journey upon
Buddha’s path to Enlightenment?

It’s the “Quick Path to Happy Peace” practice text
{or Sa-dha-na} that I’ve made available, for FREE to
all who go to http://www.lamajigme.com

Every adverse circumstance, whether it is epic in it’s
drama, or merely unsatisfactory, contains the potential
to unleash concentric ripples of the heart-bliss of
compassion.

Every pleasure, be it subtle or orgasmic, offers us
the seeds that can rapidly grow into the crop of even
greater love. How good could that feel?

If we have the courage and skill to deconstruct our
experience of either compassion or love we will unlock
the vault of bliss and peace that we, have been
genetically programmed to, long for.

Whether we use the name:
• Avalokiteshvara,
• Kwan Shih Yin Pu’sa,
• Quan Yin
• Kwanzeon Bosatsu,
• Quan Te Am, or
• Chenrezig;
this joyful path of NON-sectarian devotion to
the Buddha of Compassion hinges upon our skillful
use of six syllable mantra, “Om Mani Padme Hum,”
which is often nicknamed the “Mani.”

Om Mani Padme Hum,
Lama Jigme Gyatso
Tibetan-Buddhist: Monk, Teacher, Healer and Tantrika

P.S. I want you to develop the easy
skill of effortlessly accessing the happiness hidden
in every moment. That is why I’m making the
instructional audio CD: “Mastering the Mani” available at last month’s discount for 2 more days. So
hurry and make sure that today you go to:

You are much More then what you Eat

.

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #173
from your Buddhism expert

You are much More then what you Eat

I’ve seen folks make absolutely stupid assumptions
on the path of self improvement. As a Buddhist
teacher {Lama} I feel that observing other’s
sincere desire to improve themselves is absolutely
beautiful. But the path to growth is lined with
idiots!

Imagine meeting a woman who is very ambition to
evolve as a human being. Now imagine that she is
telling you that her only strategy
is to change what she eats. Will that heal her of
neurosis? Nope, it will just make her a slender nut!

I love fresh fruits and vegetables, who doesn’t. And yes,
there is great evidence that a great diet can lead to great
health. But don’t believe for a minuet that you are what you
eat.

No, you are more, much more. When can neurosis be
good? When it prompts you to take constructive action.
Can fixing our diet help us to keep an even keel? Yes,
it can help, but it is not all sufficient. We must also address our:
• physical,
• emotional,
• intellectual and
• spiritual needs
as well as our nutritional needs if we are going to
make significant strides upon Buddha’s path of love,
peace, insight and happiness.

That is why I’ve provide a FREE Buddhist
prayer-book, guided meditation resource and Buddha-
image to all who go to: http://www.lamajigme.com

That is also why I make a new instructional CD
available every month at:
http://www.lamajigme.com/CDs.html

Khyentse Rinpoche, the late teacher of the 14th Dalai
Lama
of Tibet, taught that the quickest path
to full enlightenment resulted from empowering our
practices of: love and letting-go with the
transformative power of the Six-syllable mantra,
Om Mani Padme Hum.” To really get
the most out of all the free stuff I give you, it is
imperative that you really get comfortable with it’s
secret techniques.

For the ultimate opportunity to learn, master and
really “get” the practice of “Om Mani Padme Hum” as
well as it’s secrets – make sure you get my learn-at-
home course “Mastering the Mani.” There are only 7 more
days to take advantage of this month’s special
discount. Learn what I know and use it for the rest
of your own life –

Sufferings Resources pt. 2

Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea # 114
from your Buddhism expert

Suffering’s Resource pt 2

What are some of the ways we could often dissipate, squander and waste suffering’s energy, that has the potential to actually further our progress upon Buddha’s paths of: love, peace, insight and happiness? Catharsis! “Getting something off our chest.” Going into story BEFORE we Harnesses the potential power {that is latent in every suffering} could be as self-defeating as choosing to masturbate before sex!

Tomorrow we’ll explore how to harness our sufferings.

Today, you could find out about receiving personal instruction from a Buddhist Monk over the telephone by going to: http://www.LamaJigme.com

Genie's Revenge

As a child I considered my self a connoisseur of cartoons, a Rex Reed of the animated, so to speak. I didn’t care for the Flintstones and I felt that the animation techniques of Hanna Barbera were just wrong. But I did enjoy some of the Warner Brothers classic cartoons, specifically those featuring Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. How about you? Did you enjoy those two?

Could you recall the episode, where our heroes took a wrong turn and wound up mistaking the Sahara desert for Pismo Beach? I loved that episode! How about you? Yes, Bugs Bunny discovered Aladdin’s lamp, released the Genie and endured all sorts of zany misadventures. By the end of the cartoon old, Daffy Duck was quite feed-up and deeply annoyed; oh like we haven’t seen that before! Any way, when it’s Daffy’s turn to rediscover the lamp and he accidentally released the genie, he wanted nothing to do with it and actually tried to stuff the genie back into the lamp. Enraged, in a booming voice the genie announced, “You have desecrated he genie of the lamp!” And then he promptly punished our friend, Daffy.

It has been pondered by some that the authentic existential dilemma is that although we want to be as cool as Bugs Bunny we are each as absurd as Daffy Duck, in our own unique way. Each of us has felt blue. How many times have we made the mistake of attempting to stuff the emotion of sadness back into the genie’s lamp of our heart? How well did that work? What are some of the ways trying to repress sadness could have simply made matters worse? Stuffed sadness can feed our anger, which can feed our fear, which can feed our sadness even further and in no time at all we can find ourselves very far from love, peace, insight and happiness.

I don’t want to be far from love, peace, insight and happiness, how about you? I don’t want to sink deeper into the bog of sadness, anger and fear. What can we do to prevent this? We can apply Buddha’s techniques to tame our afflictive emotions. We could courageously gaze unflinchingly at the affliction at hand, and so progress upon Buddha’s path of concentration. We could explore the non-graspable nature of what we feel and advance upon the path of insight. We could turn our heart to all others who may be suffering just as we are and as such grow on Buddha’s path of compassion. What could you do this week to connect with a Lama or Monk who could teach you the specific processes to practice the taming and harnessing of your sufferings?

Catharsis and the Sponge

Catharsis is poison. Although the ancients did Not have computer viruses, or traffic jams they did have stress. They did have guilt and fear and anger and sorrow and frustration. Just like us, the ancients had each of these same emotional afflictions that we have now. And just like us, they also had the desire to feel better. Over the course of time they noticed that if they talked about a problem they could feel a little better.

Yep, if you talk about a problem, you could feel a little better… but only for a short time and then after a while you start feeling guilty or frightened or angry or sad or frustrated all over again. Perhaps you have noticed this in your life as well; I know I have.

Why is the relief brought by catharsis only temporary? Why is the healing promised by getting something off one’s chest just an illusion? The answer could be found in oatmeal!

I love oatmeal, don’t you? It’s delicious! I’ve noticed that when I cook oatmeal over a high flame, it tends to boil over and that’s too messy. So I’ve found that if I just stir the oatmeal fast enough, it won’t boil over. Problem solved? Not so much! Because as soon as I stop stirring, it begins to boil over again. That brings us to a fork in the road, do we spend our time and energy perpetually stirring our emotion affliction’s boiling pot of oatmeal; or do we simply turn down the flame?

O.K. I’ll admit that Catharsis is only a short term, and temporary solution… but what could be wrong with that? How could that possibly harm me now, or in the future? Simple! Pain is a motivator. Pain, be it physical or emotional, makes us take action. When we burn our finger don’t we instinctively pull it away from the heat source at a speed that is faster than thought and stronger than pride? What would happen to our finger if we didn’t remove it from the heat source? What if we just “dealt” the pain with some sort of a special forces pain management technique? We’d loose the finger! I don’t want to lose my finger, it’s so useful; especially for expressing myself in traffic.

The greatest Buddhist sages, throughout the ages, have insisted that every incident of emotional suffering is an opportunity for spiritual growth. If, we allow the emotional pain of guilt or sorrow or fear or anger or frustration to drive us to take constructive action, if we approach an accomplished teacher, if we receive his guidance and if we put his instructions into practice, then we could experience fabulous spiritual growth as well as profound emotional relief. But if we just vent those painful emotions, if we just journal them out, or paint them out, or verbally vomit all over our dearest friends and relatives {and oh how they must love that} then we are just temporarily suspending our pain, while the real problem lurks about, unhindered. Then, we are missing out on a golden opportunity for dynamic growth and intense emotional relief.

Let’s explore that a bit. Couldn’t Catharsis be hard on those we verbally vomit upon? Everything we think, emote, say and do has an energy signature. Take two plants, in the same house, in front of the same window. All things being equal, if the first plant is subjected verbal vomit and the second is lavished with praise and adoration; couldn’t the first plant just whither and the second plant flourish? Let’s face it, dumping on others could really wear them out and exhaust them. How drained and weak and used could some lady feel after Dracula has made a meal of her neck? Is it any surprise that those who chronically, verbally-vomit are often referred to as “Energy Vampires?”

Come on kids, let’s not treat our friends or relatives like some toilet we barf our stinking emotional filth into. And come to think of it, let’s not treat our spiritual teachers that way either.

If Catharsis could be poison, then why is it so popular? Because it is quick and easy. Oh sure it is expensive in the long term but you try explaining that to the Inner: slack-jaw, gap-tooth, knuckle-dragging, cave-man we call an Id. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t encounter folks who choose catharsis over spiritual guidance in a New York minuet.

Catharsis could wear many disguises. Sometimes it takes the form of being “over talkative,” subtly boastful or even trying to control the conversation. An encounter with a teacher could be a great test.

Many people make appointments to receive private teaching sessions with their spiritual guide. When entering the presence of an accomplished Lama, whether in person or even over the phone; those who are perceptive can feel a shift. Internally they could feel intense waves of enthusiasm, gratitude or devotion and externally, even the air itself could feel electric.

It is ideal for the student to passively listen, really drinking up their Lama’s instructions and blessings; in very much the same way a dry and thirsty sponge could drink up moisture once it has been dropped into a sink of warm, sudsy water. The flow of energy Must be decidedly one-way. How then could we give back to our teacher? Physically we can give our Lama cash gifts and Spiritually we can respectfully, gratefully and enthusiastically apply his instructions.

The prideful, fearfully, tumultuous and controlling momentum of a chronic Energy-vampire could balk at this. Whether deliberately or unconsciously the energy-vampire could self-righteously Cathart by debating or discussing or commenting on almost every statement the teacher makes while also attempting to befriend or belittle the Lama. A “back and forth” energy is not conducive to rapid learning or evolution, but… it sure can feed the Energy-vampire’s sense of Self-importance. While this exercise is Not spiritually productive, it can dampen his experience of his own emotional afflictions… at least temporarily; thus we could see an ugly form of indirect Catharsis in action.

In the 2006 film “The Guardian” Kevin Costner’s character Ben Randall demonstrates that in an open-water crisis situation, a coast guard rescue swimmer’s first priority is not to make friends with the victim, but to get him into the rescue vessel as soon as possible, at all costs. If the victim tries to fight off the rescue swimmer in any way, it could mean his or both their lives. Likewise you and I have been floundering in Samsara’s ocean of guilt and fear and anger and sorrow and frustration and other emotional as well as physical afflictions for many, many lives. Right now we don’t need another pal, we need a spiritual guide, whether you call that teacher: Guru, Pandita, Bhante, Ajahn, Roshi, Shifu, Lama or Rinpoche, what you require is a teacher.

Remember the ultimate test of your Lama’s instructions is Not his prestige, fame and reputation or their popularity nor your logic or intuition. According to the Buddha the only test of the teachings is how well they work for you, when you apply them correctly and consistently. Forgetting your fearful or controlling tendencies resolve not to fight your teacher in any way, shape or form and instead choose to gratefully, enthusiastically and respectfully receive his instructions knowing that just as the proof of the pudding is in the tasting; likewise the validity of his teachings could be found in the taming of your sorrow, fear and anger as well as the augmentation of your love, peace, insight and happiness. So drink them in, like a dry and thirsty sponge that has fallen into a sink full of warm, sudsy water.

Easier than it Seems

Ms. L. wrote:

Dear Lama-Jigme,

I wrote you a message about your opinion on death and the sorrow I feel/felt
for yesterday was the 4th year of my Dad's passing.
I now feel that I must look within myself
for that answer I am seeking about death.

Dear Ms. L, please do Not look within yourself.
Rather look within the teachings of Lord Buddha.
Looking within yourself could just create
more confusion and distraction masquerading as the spiritual-path.

Ms. L. wrote:

I must rid myself of thoughts
that are hindering me from growing.

Dear Ms. L, please do Not try to get rid of thoughts…
for that sounds far too much like a lobotomy!

Just say “no” to home lobotomies!

Ms. L, back away from the power drill,
and no one will get hurt.

Who we are is NOT determined
by what emotions pop into our hearts
or by what thoughts jump into our heads.

Buddhism is NOT about
freedom from the Presence of unpleasant emotions,
as much as freedom from their Tyranny.

The question is NOT
“Do you Feel sorrow or fear over the loss of your father?”
of course you do,
you’re not make of wood, are you?

The real question is,
“O.k., now that your Feel sorrow and fear, what are you going to DO with them?
How are you going to harness their energy to progress even further
upon Buddha’s path of clarity, devotion, bliss, insight, love, peace and happiness?”

Ms. L. wrote:

I must trust myself and The Buddha
that I am on the right path for myself
for no one can help me fully
if I cannot let go and live in the NOW.

Dear Ms. L, rather than just have us trust blindly,
Buddha advises us to enthusiastically apply his teachings
and then notice the results they give us.

Do they increase our Sorrow, Fear, Anger, Pride and Control-issues,
or do they increase our clarity, devotion,
bliss, insight, love, peace and happiness?

Nope, Buddha did Not teach a path of blind faith
but of profoundly effective Mental-yogas
that can profoundly increase our Love, Peace, Insight and Happiness.

Ironically, Ms. L; if you are truly serious
about learning the science of effectively letting go and living in the now,
you will have to rely upon the instructions of one who has already gotten real good
at effectively letting go and living in the now.

Ms. L. wrote:

I thank you for your kindness
and look forward to your wonderful {classes}…

Dear Ms. L,

Rather than mucking about
with home lobotomies and blind faith
why not practice the union
of contemplation and invocation?

#1 Identify what you are probably feeling right now
{in as few words as possible and without concerning yourself with “why!”}.

#2 Explore the possibility that your sorrow and fear
might not be satisfactory.

#3 Explore the possibility that your sorrow and fear
might not be you.

#4 Explore the possibility that sorrow and fear
might not be separate from anything.

#5 Explore the possibility that sorrow and fear
might Not be permanent.

#6 Imagine even the possibility of letting go
of your sorrow and fear.

#7 Imagine the possibility of everyone
letting go of their sorrow and fear.

It's easy
and I teach it in the 5th beginning lesson.

Oh how I look forward to you learning
this technique that is as powerful
as it is easy!
