Difficult Passages

.

Share

The truly humble are NOT too ashamed to ask for help,
whereas the arrogant cannot abide such things for
what they truly treasure, even more then growth and wisdom
is their dignity and pride.

When reading your favorite Buddhist books there
are bound to be passages that you find difficult to
either understand or apply.

A boob {such as Homer Simpson} would
be content to merely:
• Dismiss the passage,
• Minimize it’s importance or
• simply Guess as to it’s meaning or best application.

What would a Bodhisattva do?
They’d ask for help.

An arrogant fool would try to test his would be helper’s intelligence by
comparing and contrasting the answer he receives with
either his logic or intuition or
that of others like some demented game show host.

BUT in the Sutta of the Kalima’s Dilemma
Buddha dismissed those practices as being entirely ineffective at
discovering the truth.

How then are we to know,
really know,
if the guidance we receive is correct, no less beneficial?

Karma {cause and effect} is the ONLY test of
any teacher or teaching.

When you receive a teaching,
don’t judge it,
simply apply it twice a day, every day, for 7 consecutive days and
notice your results.

If the results are bad,
go find a new teacher.
BUT if the results are good, then
come back for more teachings.

You could post your Concise questions at Become Buddha.
If it seems to have gotten lost you can always resubmit it the following week.
Be sure to include a quote of
the passage you're having difficulty with.

The Friday-series of weekly webinars begins in ONLY 2 weeks!

May you and yours be
happy and healthy!
