Luminosity and Emptiness

.

QUESTION:
what is meant by “luminosity and emptiness?”

Emptiness

ANSWER:
It is a tragic mistake to confuse a metaphor…

mistake

with a literal statement.
But sadly, that is what has happened
throughout the ages.

Folks have confused the visualizations
of the Completion-stage meditations
with the Great completion stage’s
spontaneous exploration of both awareness {or “Rigpa” as they say in Tibet}
and it’s ultimate, non-graspable nature.

non graspable

So no, in this context the great Tibetan saint { Karma Chagme } was NOT referring to
the Completion stage’s practice
of contriving a visualization depicting:

the universe Impermanently dissolving into rainbow light…

universe

that interdependently absorbs into this world and it’s denizens;

earth

which, then too, Impermanently dissolves into more rainbow light
that then interdependently absorbs into “my” body of light
in the aspect of four armed Chenrezig

and the denizens of his body mandala;
which also Impermanently dissolves into rainbow light
that interdependently absorbs into “my” crown center
in the aspect of a white, mustard seed sized, letter “H”;

H

that also Impermanently melts into light
that interdependently absorbs into the limitless expanse
of vast space’s infinite openness.

H

Nope, although that visualization is a fun tool
that reconciles both causality with impermanence,
it is still a contrivance.

contrivance

Whereas the exploration of “Luminosity and Emptiness”
{or the practice of Lucidity and Letting-go that could also known as
Dzogchen, Mahamudra, Zen or even Vipassana
}
is an exercise in spontaneity.

spontaneity

You see during the IN-breath we are passively noticing

noticing

whatever is piercing our sphere of awareness in the moment and then…
during the OUT-breath
we simply let-go of that observation.

letting-go

This is NOT an intellectual process as much as a visceral one,
and while Awareness and Letting-go could be profoundly beneficial
it is NO substitute for:
• Devotion and letting-go,
• Compassion and letting-go or even
• Love and letting-go.

visceral
