Why Did Buddha Meditate?

.

Why did Buddha continue to meditate, even AFTER
he accomplished full enlightenment?
Why didn’t he stand up and proclaim,
I’m going to Disneyworld!?

To answer that we first have to answer, this…
"What is the difference between a Buddha and a Bodhisattva?"

They both practice the mental yogas of:
• devotion,
• awareness,
• love and
• letting-go.

So then what’s the difference?
Do the Buddha’s know a secret technique, or
maybe a secret handshake
{ya know, like the Shriners or like the members of my Collage Fraternity }?

Nope, the only difference is mastery.
A Buddha is simply a Bodhisattva who has
learned to practice Buddha’s four yogas:
• spontaneously,
habitually,
• easily and
• effectively.

Hey, did ya notice the “H” word?
It’s all about habituating the practices.

It’s been said that although it can take 21 days {in a row} to
install a good habit, into our mind, heart, and body, it
could only take as little as 3 consecutive days to undermine it.

So, why did Buddha persist in meditation, even after
he accomplished full enlightenment?

peace.jpg

Because in his wisdom he could see the benefits of
continuing to nurture the profoundly constructive spiritual habits that
he had manifested… couldn’t you?

That is exactly why I insist that you are only my student when
you enthusiastically apply my instructions.
And the core of my instructions is to practice no less
then 9 minutes, twice a day, every day.

The Folly of Believing in NO-self

.

There are MANY Buddhists
who sincerely hope that
if they just believe hard enough that
they have NO “self” then
they’ll instantly become a Buddha.

But they’re mistaken!

Folks, you can’t believe yourself into Nirvana, but
belief {and the neurotic energies generated from
indulging the controlling tendencies that try to wrestle with the
greased pigs that are our thoughts and emotions
} could
dig us even even deeper into Samsara.

This, of course, begs the question; "What is Sam-sa-ra?"

No, it’s not a place, but a state of being,
that is to say, whenever we are a slave to
the tyranny of sufferings,
whenever sufferings control our
• choices,
• words and
• actions,
then we’re in Samsara.

demotivational posters - BDSM BEARS

Well that sucks, doesn’t it?
Who wants that?

Boy talk about adding insult to injury,
first sufferings hurt,
but then they make us do stupid stuff,
which {yes, you guessed it}
aggravates our present suffering
and creates even more suffering… yuck!

cute puppy pictures - Ewww, vegimutayshunz! Soo gross :P

I don’t want sufferings to control me.
And neither do you, that’s
why you're reading my blogs and considering coming to my webinar classes so
that the moment suffering appears in your life, you
could apply Buddha’s techniques:
• spontaneously,
• habitually,
• easily and
• effectively.

When you have accomplished that degree of mastery,
you are then free,
NOT from suffering’s Presence,
BUT from it’s Tyranny and

that cessation of tyranny
is called Nir-va-na.

Folks, Nirvana is accomplished NOT through belief, BUT
through conditioning.

And using Buddha’s mental yogas to
explore our sense of “me” AND then let-go of it, can
be a useful exercise that can
contribute to the spiritual conditioning…

that habit of both being aware AND letting-go while
also choosing to be the loving individual, that
we were born to be.

Come, let us be the people,
that our dogs already think we are.

Lineage, Root and Heart Lamas

.

QUESTION: What are the three kinds of Teachers?
ANSWER:
#1 Your Root Teacher – is simply the
Lama or Lamas who instruct you during this life…

Funny Pictures of Cats With Captions

#2 your Lineage Teachers – are your root teacher’s teachers, and
their teachers and so on, and so on, all the way back to the Buddha.

#3 Heart Teachers – of all the root teachers that we’re
exposed to directly and indirectly, our heart teacher is the one who
shapes our spiritual evolution most profoundly and
consequentially we feel a great gratitude for them that is
spontaneous and uncontrived.

Our heart teacher is NOT just some teacher that we think is:
• handsome,
• charming,
• charismatic,
• popular, or
• funny.

Nope, he’s someone who’s given us actual teachings, and
not only did we apply his instructions to our lives enthusiastically and daily but
when we did they
bore dramatic fruit.

Remember, Christ taught that you shall know a tree by it’s fruit.
Paul the apostle later explained that those fruits included:
• love,
• peace,
• joy,
• kindness, and
• goodness.

So receive your Lama’s teachings,
apply his instructions twice a day, every day and then you’ll
be just as fruity as you want to be!

The Poison of Ignorance

.

And no, when I say “Poison” I’m NOT
referring to a lame-ass, spandex-wearing,
wanna-be rock band from the late 80’s!

Way back when I was a traditional student of
the more Hyper-conservative presentation Tibetan Buddhism, I was
concerned about the mental poison of “Ignorance” because,
quite frankly, my teachers could NOT explain
emptiness” to save their lives.

But folks, I’m here to tell ya that
the mental poison of Ignorance is NOT
our failure to become erudite scholars.

In Buddhist circles it can be argued that ignorance has two aspects:
#1 a failure to recognize Causality and interconnection as well as
#2 a failure to explore the ramifications of Impermanence.

Falling House of Cards

When we think about those who politically act as if
they were waging war,
NOT against poverty,
BUT against the poor themselves…

…one can’t help but wonder how
butter fingered their grasp must be on the two notions of
causality and impermanence.

We know it’s NOT true, but for the sake of simplicity, let’s
pretend that every right-wing conservative was
a Christian fundamentalist.

God bless the Christian fundamentalists!
My favorite ones are those who:
• sincerely,
• enthusiastically, and
• intelligently
strive to apply the wisdom of the new testament.
Hey, there’s some really good stuff in there.

What troubles me are the ones who aren’t so
sincere, intelligent or good hearted.
Those are the ones who tend to forget what Christ taught about:
• the dangers of greed, fear and hate as well as
• the necessity of generosity, compassion and love.

They are the ones who forget that in the book of James it is written,

“…be thou NOT deceived,
what thou hast sown,
thou shalt reap!”

They are also the ones who forget that in
the 1st book of John it is written,

“…perfect love drives OUT fear;”

or that in the letter to the Galations we can read that
hate is a work of the flesh
and NOT a fruit of the spirit
although love, goodness, kindness and {you guessed it} generosity are!

May everyone who espouses to be a Christian Fundamentalist be truly:
• good hearted,
• wise and
• enthusiastic
in their application of Christ’s teachings.

Hey, angry man who wants to deny the
sick and the elderly SSI or Medicare…

Tea Partiers Mock and Scorn a Parkinson’s Victim

…remember that Christ taught impermanence in
the sermon on the mount when he mentioned the flowers that
are beautiful and living today, but dead and thrown in the oven tomorrow.
If flowers are impermanent, couldn’t wealth be as well?

How darkly ironic it could be, if
the social safety nets that an angry man declared Jihad upon, were
no longer there after
his wealth went the way of Adam?

Causality and Impermanence… they Don't just effect Buddhists!

Enlightened Instructions {refuge pt-3}

.

What else do Buddhists take shelter or "refuge" in?
Buddha’s teachings!

The Enlightened One’s actual teachings are
NOT cryptic metaphysics that
we use to mentally masturbate with,
BUT rather,
very easy and practical tools.

And like all tools,
they are useless IF
all they do is lay around.

Nope, the value of a tool is
seen in it’s use.
So remember folks,
it’s better to USE a tool,
then to BE a tool!

The Essence of the Two Tantric Stages

.

Although many teachers explain that the 1st Tantric stage is
all about:
• making offerings,
• performing visualizations, and
• reciting mantras both
for concentration and contemplation whereas…

the 2nd Tantric stage is all about the generation of bliss as an object of both:
• concentration and
• contemplation,
NOT all would agree.

It can be argued by some that ultimately, the
two Tantric stages are all about the
two collections.

The fourteenth Dalai Lama has taught that
the meaning of life can be found in four points:
#1 accomplishing enlightenment to benefit oneself,
#2 and all others by
#3 gathering the two collections of Good-karma and
#4 Buddha’s wisdom of letting-go.

The latter teachers explain that proper:
• offerings,
• visualizations and
• mantras could
increase our Good-karma.

They also explain that generating bliss as
a compelling object of concentration and
then letting-go of it could be a profoundly effective means of
increasing our wisdom of
the ultimate, NON-graspable nature of all phenomena.

In his old age, the great Rime Manipa Tantrika, “Patrul Rinpoche” grew
quite bold and insisted that the essence of the two Tantric stages was
nothing other than the two Bodhichittas of
Love {or Compassion} and Letting-go.

Come, let us reason.

His holiness the 14th Dalai Lama {in his book “The Path to Enlightenment}
teaches that love and compassion are profoundly effective methods of
purifying one’s Bad-karma and increasing one’s Good-karma.
They can also be very effective for generating subtle waves of heart bliss.

Bringing those sensations of love, compassion and bliss into
the path of systematically letting-go is an
easy way of quickly accomplishing the 6th perfection of a Bodhisattva…
transcendental wisdom.

Come, let us:
• quickly master Buddha’s yogas of Love as well as Letting-go and
• drink deep of enlightenment…
you’ll like it.
