How Rude!

.

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #194
from your Buddhism expert

I carefully stepped off the Bus.

My cloth shopping bags, bulging with fresh produce,
subtly swung from the straps from which they hung on
my shoulders. In my left hand I held Sunday’s
Intermediate Sadhana {or practice text} open
to the skies. I was wearing the robes of a Tibetan
monk and my head was shorn in the style of the Dalai
Lama. In my right hand I counted beads on my mala
{or Buddhist rosary} while I softly recited

Om Mani Padme Hum
as I slowly walked home. It
was apparent to all that this Buddhist monk,

was meditating.

“Aren’t you hot?”

a young lady demanded. She expected me to:
• stop walking,
• stop the important task of meditating,
• and engage her in pointless conversation,
upon a frivolous topic that was not at all
pertinent to her real spiritual or emotional needs.

Rather than do her the disservice of indulging her
manipulative and controlling tendencies I gently
smiled and silently lifted my right index finger to
my pursed lips in a pantomime of the “Shhh” gesture,

as I turned in her general direction while keeping
my eyes lowered to the ground in meditative drishti
{or gaze}.

As the spark of rage was kindled in her heart, she

spat the words,

“How Rude!”

Suddenly the hot, heavy desert air was pierced by
the siren of an ambulance approaching to tend a
fallen transient.

“Ooh, let's go and watch.”

she commanded her companion. And they turned and
swiftly walked away.

It is always a mistake to confuse a genuine need with
the mere urgency of impulse; especially the impulse
of trivial curiosity. When did the culture of
paparazzi and “reality T.V.”

convince us, as a people, that our lust for
inconsequential details gave us license to
disrespectfully pry into the lives of others in
the name of mindless recreation? How have we come
to believe that others live solely to entertain us?
Why do so many feel that the urgings of an
“inquiring mind” out weigh the need for courtesy
and consideration?

Who was this clearly anti-social and obviously,
oddly-dressed fellow who dared to defy her demand?

Her teacher.

And he’s yours as well. If she did not learn her
lesson, then perhaps you did.

Come, let us live lives marked by centeredness,
peace, balance, subtle joy and spontaneous love. No,
not the frenzied love of a little puppy dog,
convinced that he must lick the face of all he
encounters;

but the calm enlightened love of a Bodhisattva who
earnestly yet peacefully longs to take away the
suffering of every being, in the most wonderful
way. Sounds great, but how, how can we surmount
this task?

Simple! You could begin by implementing Buddha’s lost
teachings of Breathing Meditation. I’ll reveal these
secrets to everyone who acquires this month’s
instructional CD, the “Centering Questions.” How could
just 5 minuets, twice daily, change your life? Find out
by getting your hands on this CD. But hurry, there
are only two more days to take advantage of
April’s discount. So order your copy today

Gold or Poop

.

Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #153
from your Buddhism expert

Gold or Poop

Interconnection; directly or indirectly everything
effects everything else. It has been said that the
simple act of a butterfly, gently articulating it’s
wings in a Beijing park, to dry the morning dew that
has gathered upon them; can set in motion a chain of
events that can effect the weather patterns over
New York’s Central Park, half a world away.

Like wise our karma is both effected by my many things
and also effects many things in turn. Our perceptions,
for instance, are effected by our karma, our bodies
components, and our external conditions.

If we regularly practice the prayers and guided
meditations of “Quick Path to Happy Peace” { that is
available for FREE at http://www.lamajigme.com
} then, by the blessings of the Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas AND by the truth of Cause and Effect,
we will progress upon Buddha’s paths of devotion,
renunciation, love and wisdom.

But if we are growing in wisdom every day does that
mean that those around us will be able to perceive
or recognize our development? No, not at all!

Some people will have the karma to see us clearly,
but others will not. Some will see that what we have
to offer them is as valuable as gold coins. Others
could see what we offer them to be as odious as
doggie doo. How could this be a test of our love?

Simple, if someone values what we have then we share
it with them. We can share our teacher’s essays or
web address and that’s great, that’s loving. Why?
Because love seeks to lavish others with blessings
or at least what they experience as blessings.

On the other hand, if someone’s karma causes them to
perceive us and the fruits of our spiritual practice
as the spiritual equivalent of doggie doo, then the
compassionate thing to do would be to NOT share our
Lama’s teachings with them. For compassion seeks to
shield others from suffering or at the very least,
what they experience as suffering.

After all, my friend; everyone enjoys being tossed
a gold coin. But who wants to have doggie doo tossed
at them!

If you agree, then celebrate with a set of seated bows
to the Buddha of Compassion – as taught in my
Instructional CD, “Harnessing the Power of the
Bowing Prayer
” – http://www.lamajigme.com/Change-90.html
