Desire versus Obsession

.

Share

QUESTION:
What is the difference between Desire and Obsession?

ANSWER:
#1 Desire + Letting-go = a potentially useful spiritual tool.

tool

For instance the desire to manifest one’s ideal mate
could feed both one's Universal Love
for every other living being to each receive their
“100% romantic Twin Flame” in the most wonderful way;
as well as one’s practice of the wisdom of Letting-go of Buddha.

#2 Desire withOUT letting-go = a potentially dangerous trap.

trap

Desire for anything {spiritual or not}
can lead to rigidity, aggression and suffering.
Yes, even devotion, if NOT tempered with
Buddha’s wisdom of letting-go, can be destructive.

Look!
Look how many atrocities have been perpetrated
in the name of righteousness.

crusades

Monty Python’s alumni Terry Jones
has a series of History lessons on cable and Net Flix.

In a two disc series exploring the history
of the first three Crusades
we see a sorrowful example of what nightmares can come
from devotion that is devoid of wisdom.

huh?

Some historians even posit that it was the
European Christians who really schooled the Muslims in
the “art” of hate and atrocity!

hate

It always comes back to the simile of the Bull’s Eye.

bull’s eye

#1 The outer ring {that covers the most area} represents Devotion,
that is common to virtually every religion.
#2 the second ring represents the Love
that is {at least lauded} in many religions.

#3 The third ring represents the Awareness or even Concentration
that is explored in just some spiritual traditions.
#4 the center dot {that covers the least amount of area}
represents the wisdom of Letting-go.

What makes THIS path unique,
is that we practice all four!

Just as a four legged table is more stable
then a one or two legged one,
likewise it is the practice and mastery of these four yogas
that paves this easy path to rapid enlightenment.

Do you have hopes, dreams and desires?
Who doesn’t!
The safest and easiest way to manifest them is found in
rapidly mastering the Four-fold yoga of Buddha.
