Freeing Devotion from the Cage of Belief

.

I teach a very simple form of devotion:
#1 Devotion to the Buddha of Compassion – expressed through invocation of
either his name or his mantra and
#2 Devotion to the Teacher – expressed by enthusiastically
receiving and applying his instructions.

Lama Chenrezig

That’s it.
Ya don’t have to pretend that your teacher
is a flawless emanation of Chenrezig
{the Buddha of Compassion}.

It’s easy:
#1 Find a teacher who promises full enlightenment in 10 months.
#2 Suspend judgment.
#3 Open mindedly receive his teachings every week.
#4 Enthusiastically apply his instructions twice a day, for 6 consecutive days.
#5 Then engage your judgment to evaluate the results you’re received.

If you got crap results – then find another teacher.
When you get good results – come back for more teachings…
easy, peasy lemon-squeezy!

Devotion based on certainty is rigid,
and as such can shatter.

Devotion based on desire for favorable results could be flexible,
and can adapt to any circumstance.

It’s kind of like a bear chasing you though the woods.
In that moment of abject terror,
it is UN-likely that you’ll feel the serene confidence
of the absolute certainty in your safety…

serene

but NO matter how much fear is coursing through your arteries,
your desire for personal safety will always be present.

desire

Desire is much more reliable then faith.
Do we have to understand it?
Not at all.
The test of the teachings is NOT in our logic,
BUT in the results we generate by applying them.
