NON-sectarian Buddhism

.

The Tibetan word “Rime
can be translated as “NON-sectarian.”

And in a world where almost every sect of every
religion bares it’s teeth in rivalry and petty-one-ups-man-ship
{yes, even in Buddhism}
being NON-sectarian often means that
we piss everybody off!

In Tibet the four primary sects are the:
#1 Nyingma,
#2 Kagyu,
#3 Sakya and
#4 Gelug.

The first three of this Motley Crew {just say NO to spandex!}
emphasize “impermanence” in their wisdom training,
whereas the forth tends to emphasize “interdependence”
in their wisdom trainings.

As true Rimes we work with both sets of contemplations
in the practice known as “The Verbal: Three Cauldrons.”
It is a pragmatic Lam Rim sadhana that is found on pg. 81
of “ The Beginning Collection of Practices .”

While savoring these contemplations
it is important to remember that
our job is NOT to think our way to Nirvana BUT to…

…playfully, silently and mentally recite each of
these contemplative questions during it’s IN-breath and
relax into the chanting of "Om Mani Padme Hum" during each OUT-breath.

Yes my friends, there are two kinds of questions:
#1 – hard ass questions {that actually require an answer} and
#2 – lazy bastard questions {that merely require our devoted relaxation}.
These exercises are definitely integral to
this quick and easy school of rapid enlightenment.

There are three cauldrons in this collection of exercises, the:
• Abdominal,
• Thoracic and
• Cranial
centers that we access through our
gut, chest and then crown centered awareness.

This paradigm that we’ve inherited from the ancient Chinese Taoists is
a fun way to simplify the rather complex traditional Hindu and Buddhist
energy systems
and also a fun way to organize…

the Sutric and Tantric Lam Rims,
{or structured and outlined essence of all that Buddha taught}.
