The "Why" and the "What" of Enlightnement

.

Now we come to the deep question, “Why?
Why entertain the possibility that an ordinary man could become so
emotionally healthy and well-adjusted that
folks call him “The Enlightened One”?

Why attend a teacher and
apply the instructions he gives you?
Easy!

#1 Suffering Sucks!
#2 Everyone Suffers.
#3 When we allow the profundity of universal suffering to
deeply prick our hearts we will long to
do something productive about it; and…

#4 by accomplishing Buddha’s teachings, we’ll have the
ability to truly benefit all others.

And that’s why we pray:
“For the benefit of every living being
may I accomplish Chenrezig right now!”

But what does it mean to
accomplish Chenrezig {the Buddha of Compassion}?

Simple, there are three categories of people:
#1 Buddha’s,
#2 Bodhisattvas and
#3 Boobs!

Homer Simpson is a great example of a boob with
absolutely NO impulse control.

A bodhisattva learns and practices the Enlightened Ones’s techniques which
can be grouped in 4 categories:

#1 Devotion,
#2 Awareness,
#3 Love and
#4 Letting-go.

When a Bodhisattva has mastered these 4 yogas to
such a degree that he can practice them:
#1 Spontaneously,
#2 Habitually,
#3 Easily and
#4 Effectively… then
he has become a Buddha.
Yes, it’s that easy!
