I’ve often taught that “why” questions
are seldom beneficial.
If you just keep plugging away at Buddha’s four yogas of:
• Devotion,
• Awareness,
• Love and
• Letting-go,
karma will take care of it self.
When we look at Buddha’s life,
we see that even after he accomplished full enlightenment
bad stuff still happened;
there were still plagues, famines and wonton acts of cruelty.
Buddha was NOT the all being,
master of time, space and dimension.
He was simply a man who became much more…
a truly happy camper.
Questions such as
“who is in control of how much we pay for bad karma?”,
and “Why isn’t all of our bad karma effecting us at one time?”
are great if you want to squander your time, energy and resources
on conjecture.
But if what you want,
what you really, really want is…
…to overcome the tyranny of suffering
and help many others to do likewise,
then such questions are just a big, fat trap.
Yep, more then 9 times out of 10,
“what” is infinitely more powerful then “why.”
So let’s ask “what am I experiencing?”,
and then “What should I do about it?”
When we read the texts about Buddha,
we’ll see that he often just ignored most metaphysical questions.
Buddha kept it pragmatic.
That’s why he was able to teach,
that it was possible to accomplish full enlightenment
in 7 years, or 7 months, or 7 weeks or even 7 days.
Notice he did NOT say that was only possible
for “special people”
or only for monastics
or only for a limited amount of time.
Buddha’s teaching work or they don’t work.
If we can’t make them work,
then we just don’t understand them.
Folks if it’s NOT practical, and it’s NOT productive,
then it’s NOT dharma!
