The Zeal of Spiritual Hunger

.

In “ The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones ” the
teacher of the Dalai Lama {Dilgo Kyentse Rinpoche} explained that
if we desire to have the time to meditate, and

treasure that desire, eventually things will shift
{in the most wonderful way} and
that time in our schedule will manifest and present itself.

schedule

Behold the power of spiritual desire!
It could be argued that desire {aka Zeal} is one of
the most vital aspects of the spiritual path.

To enter the path {no less complete it} we first must experience a
profound dissatisfaction with our life and feel the urgent need to
remedy it as quickly and as effectively as possible.

frustration

There are some misinformed, arrogant fools who
insist that they are far too “enlightened” to ever feel any dissatisfaction, but
that is NOT what Buddha taught!

self righteous

Some truths are universal,
for instance, we can also see this same lesson
taught in the synoptic gospels.

In sermon on the mount the first and foremost attitude that Jesus implores his listeners to embrace is NOT:
• expertise at logic and debate,
• expertise at arcane esoterics,
• expertise at scripture or even
• expertise at ritual.
Nope, what Christ most recommended was Spiritual Hunger.

feed me

Let us explore this by means of contrast.
Imagine a gorgeous guest at an elegant, upper crust, cocktail party.
She is far too fabulous to enjoy herself, so in her boredom she
absentmindedly nibbles an hors d'oeuvres.

Boring Cocktail Party

Let us contrast her dining habits with those of
the Tasmanian devil from a Bugs Bunny cartoon…
now that’s culinary enthusiasm!

Tazy {that’s what all his friends call him} obviously
feels hunger and he does NOT like it one little bit, and
in this enthusiasm to overcome that which he finds unsatisfactory;
dignity, pride, fear and laziness are left in the dust!

What are some of the things in your life that
you could find unsatisfactory?
Have you grown weary of having:
• sadness,
• annoyance and
• fear
shape your life?

If your childhood “you” were to observe the
adult “you”
how disappointed could he be?
