What Motivates Us?

.

The Theravadans classically take their hate of
suffering {and it’s causes}

dissatisfaction

as well as their lust for peace and bliss as
their motivations to practice.

lust

However in the Mahayana we are taught that the
best motivations are universal compassion and love.

The rocket-fuel of the selfish aversion to suffering and
the hedonistic desire for pleasure can
only propel us so far along enlightenment’s path, until
we will exhaust them and simply run out of steam.

run out of steam

But since the number of living beings is inconceivably vast, the
longing to take away their sufferings and truly meet their needs is
likewise limitless and can therefore fuel us to
practice the teachings of Buddha even when our
baser motivations fail us.

fail

But let’s not fool ourselves, sometime
disinterest in practice is NOT due to a
spiritual short coming as much as it is a
commentary on the amount of our body’s vitality.

pooped out

Folks, everything effects everything.
• What we eat,
• how we exercise, and
• how we ground have
profound effects on our Jua'de'vieve.

zest for life

Come, let us work strategically with our:
• bodies,
• hearts and
• minds
to make our lives and our
journey to full enlightenment into
an even greater work of art!
