Warrior versus Coward

.

When English translations of sundry Buddhist Scriptures use
the term “Three-fold World” what are they talking about?

#1 The Desire realm which {traditionally} includes:
• the Hell-realms,
• the Hungry-ghost realms,
• the Animal-realm,
• the Human-realm
• the Demi-god {or Titan} realm and
• the {the lower part of the} God realm.

#2 The Middle part of the God realm is
called the Form realm and
#3 the Higher part of the God-realm is
called the Formless realm.

Do I expect you to believe in this stuff?
Nope, I don’t believe in belief, but
it could be useful to at least familiarize yourself with these terms if
you wish to read Buddhist books.

Personally I do NOT find a fundamentalist or literalist view to
be very empowering, and
it really just feeds fear, which
is the antidote to that pesky thing, us big boys call “peace.

Perhaps you’ll find this a bit more useful...
all phenomena could fall under one of three headings,
that which is:
#1 coarse,
#2 subtle or
#3 very subtle.

Just as every night we keep moving from sleep, to dreams and
then wake up and roll over,
likewise throughout the waking day we keep rotating from
Very-subtle, to Subtle and to Coarse states and experiences.

Rather then seek to manipulate his experience a
true Tantrika "rolls with the punches" as...

...various states spontaneously manifest he
brings each experience into Buddha's paths of
Devotion, Awareness, Love and Letting-go.

However, a tragically common mistake is to obsess over the “Jhanas” or
the various levels of concentration and their blissful experiences and
then shun the Coarse states and seek only the
Subtle and the Very-subtle states of mind.

I don’t get into that directly as
I find it to be a trap and a byway that
can actually lead away from the liberation that
Buddha offers us…

the freedom from the tyranny of adverse:
• circumstances,
• sensations,
• emotions and
• thoughts.

It’s been my experience that the Tantrikas who
spend too much time crawling into their own navels, or
the Theravadans who spend too much time crawling up
their own noses are really just trying to
drown their sufferings in a lake of bliss.

Hmmm, that could almost sound like metaphysical violence!

What’s so bad about that?
Glad you asked!
Just like Rosanne Rosanna Danna used to say,
If it’s not one thing it’s another!

There’s always anther adverse circumstance, or
painful emotion that we’ll have to drown.
And let’s face it, who wants to spend their lives hiding from
their sufferings behind their navel or up their nose?

That doesn’t sound like the
way of the Bodhisattva warrior to me, it
sounds more like the way of
the trembling coward!

NOTE: Observe how well I resisted the urge to
mention Brave Sir Robin
from
Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

So as Rime Manipa Tantrikas we use just
enough concentration to facilitate our efforts to
use the dark energies of:
• pain,
• sadness,
• anger and
• fear
that spontaneously manifest in our lives so that
{like alchemists of lore} we may transform them into:
• joy,
• love,
• peace and
• Buddha’s wisdom of letting-go.

Now, doesn’t that sound more fun then
hiding up your nose?
